Biography
Justin Haiman received a B.S. in Biopsychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2021. He then began his doctoral training in 2021 with Dr. Skirmantas Janusonis at UCSB. When not working in the lab, Justin is often rock climbing in the local crags or out walking his dog.
Research
Our lab investigates the stochastic processes driving the behavior of single axons in the serotonergic system to understand how region-specific densities arise across the brain. Specifically, I utilize in vivo and ex vivo models to understand serotonergic axonal dynamics, both spatially and temporally, combining molecular and cellular biology, bioengineering, and microscopy. Our work is motivated by understanding and finding answers to problems fundamental to neuroscience, and it also has strong clinical relevance as many mental health disorders have abnormalities in the serotonergic system.
