Goard Lab Documents Hormone-Mediated Dendritic Growth

May 19, 2025

A new paper in Neuron from the lab of PBS Associate Professor Michael Goard, co-authored with Emily Jacobs, documents how hormone fluctuations during the estrus cycle in mice causes changes to dendritic spines and changes in dendritic processing and spatial coding in neurons in the hippocampus. Ovarian cycle shifts in mice are thus changing neural structure and function, with possible ramifications for spatial cognition. See the paper in Neuron and UCSB’s The Current write-up for more. Congratulations, Michael and Emily!
