Neuroscientist Michael Goard was awarded a 2019 research grant from the Whitehall Foundation. The award ($225,000 over 3 years) recognizes pioneering efforts of junior and senior faculty and will support a novel direction for the lab. Goard has developed an approach using a scanning laser microscope to measure neural activity in mice performing a virtual navigation task to determine how spatial memories are stored in the cortex.

Founded in 1937, the non-profit organization is dedicated to scholarly research in the life sciences and neurobiology.
