Dr. Emily Jacobs, Assistant Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been invited by the National Academy of Sciences to the 28th Annual Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium. The gathering, which convenes in November, is considered the Academy’s premiere activity for distinguished young scientists.

Dr. Jacobs is a neuroscientist dedicated to advancing women’s health. Her research uses convergent techniques from human brain imaging, endocrinology and imaging genetics to study the role of sex hormones in learning and memory. By focusing on the menopausal transition in women, her work has demonstrated that early changes in memory circuitry are evident decades before the age range traditionally targeted by cognitive aging studies.

Attendees are selected by the Academy and represent "young researchers who have already made recognized contributions to science, including recipients of major national fellowships and awards and who have been identified as future leaders in science. Attendees include Sloan Fellows, Packard Fellows, MacArthur Genius Grantees, Pew Fellows, Searle Scholars and Presidential Early Career Awardees for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Since its inception in 1989, more than two hundred of its “alumni” have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences and ten have been awarded Nobel Prizes.”
