Nicole Alea Albada is a developmental psychologist specializing in adult development and aging. She is an Associate Teaching Professor in the UCSB’s Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, and the Director of Education and Outreach for the Center for Aging and Longevity Studies. Drawing from her decades-long research on how life experiences relate to psychosocial wellbeing among older adults, experience teaching undergraduates about aging and longevity, and her outreach efforts aimed to serve the broader older adult community, Dr. Albada will discuss the promises and difficulties with creating age-friendly universities. Considerations for discussion involve thinking about age-diverse learners through curriculum development, accessible on-campus services, intergenerational engagement, and age-inclusive policies. As universities face shifting demographics, Dr. Albada will highlight how embracing age inclusivity can create campuses that are vibrant, sustainable learning environments that are inclusive and benefiting students, faculty, staff, and the broader community of all ages.
