NBC News Video on Dr. Laura Lewis's Research
NBC News recently produced a video highlighting research led by Dr. Laura Lewis on the evolutionary and developmental roots of social curiosity. In this paper, published in Proceedings B, chimpanzees and young children (ages 4–6) participated in three experiments. The results showed that both species preferred to watch social interactions over nonsocial scenes and sometimes even paid a cost to access social information. Children’s curiosity also revealed important developmental and gender differences. These findings suggest that social curiosity emerges early in human development and is shared with our closest evolutionary relatives.
